Settler Colonial Projects
From Indian Occupied Kashmir:
New Colonies set up in Dewar to further settler colonial projects:
Along the Srinagar Varmul road, new townships have been constructed in the Dewar area.
According to reports, several senior police officers and soldiers have already purchased properties in the region where a housing society for Kashmiri Pandits is also being built.
The historic Burzahom- a neolithic site, a college, and several government agencies are also located nearby.
Since it is high ground with a significant elevation surrounded by the Karewa landscape, the location has already been recognized as a strategic zone.
A proposal to build a landing area for light aircraft is also being considered. “Land values have soared, & so has everything else in this region.
Locals would be unable to dwell here, and Kashmiri Muslims are being discouraged from buying land in the area,” a local informed us.
The area is next to a highway, with direct access to three critical places – Sonmarg, Gulmarg and Varmul.
According to residents, several well known individuals from the Indian occupation have recently visited the area searching for land to buy.
Some individuals are high ranking Indian bureaucrats accompanied by armoured vehicles & Indian armed forces are getting the land changed to their names at a discounted price.
For the unversed, the land in this area is also being leased exclusively for Kashmiri Pandit colonies.
Nearly 70 hectares of land in Gulmarg and Sonamarg tourist resorts have been declared by the Jammu & Kashmir Government as ‘strategic areas’.
The latest move has paved the way for the Indian Army to take control of these land patches now.
Kashmiri Muslim families fear that such colonies are being set up to act as residential cum military facilities for Indian occupation, essentially to create an atmosphere similar to Palestine where local Kashmiri Muslims would be decimated to a minority.
Continuing its settler-colonial project, India is fast-tracking applications from outsiders to take over most of the land that is vacant in these areas with direct help from its armed occupation forces.
3 years ago, India’s Consul General in New York Sandeep Chakravorty, was invited by the Kashmiri Pandit diaspora in the USA.
He boasted about the Indian government building settlements for the return of Kashmiri Pandits to IOK modelled on Israel’s settlements in Palestine.
The fear of Israeli style settlements has now turned into a reality for the native residents of Occupied Kashmir.
This is what we were fearing & the world is silent and done nothing about it . The Arab world was silent when #Israel did it in #Palestine and @OIC_OCI is silent now in not imposing #SanctionsOnIndia to stop them not to speak of @UN which will only act once the biggest group act
